Some of us are so dysfunctional a permanent hermaphroditic state is the best option with a label attached saying 'too screwed up to be either male or female'.

| Boomtown Pangarune Corner 23:58:43 |
| | While not on topic, a bit of news...
Global warming caused us here in the North to loose our last winter. Now we have a "heat warning" for the next four days. It has been unseasonally hot, ranging up to 36 C. Record high temperatures for this area, and the forests are dry as dust.
At our home, we have fans going all day long, drapes closed during the late morning and afternoon. The Canadian highest temperature was 44.8 C - a small town in Saskatchewan years ago. We expect Lynton or Lilloet, in the Frazer Valley, to break that record in the next few days. They came very close today at 44.4.
I am not sure how far south the heat wave goes - certainly to Vancouver and Seattle. Seattle stations are also putting out a heat warning.
Ah well - as one of Canada's ten new boom towns - according to all the recent news - we can swelter and watch our home go up in value. Two for sure, possibly three pipelines running just to the North, all sorts of rail and highway improvements due to the opening of Prince Rupert as a container port, and several new mines. There is no motel space at all - none. I am told that sharing a room is the only way some can get a place to stay. Some friends who rent have been looking, and due to one news report, it seems that all rents went up by over $100 in a week or so.

That says nothing about oil and gas, along with some mad fools who are putting in pipes to test for diamonds. Canada now has a large percentage of the world's diamond mining thanks to the Northwest Territories, but it seems the local area is just right.
Should be a fun few years, if we can take the heat...

| RIP John Thomas Usher - The Shame of San Francisco Borked Pseudo Mailed 03:10:29 |
| | Today's Chronicle reported the death of John Thomas Usher, alais "Jennifer Usher". Usher is a reputed newsgroup bigot and has harassed and caused emotional harm on various people over the years on the newsgroup alt.support.srs.
A crossdresser, Usher reputedly changed his views when he himself became a victim of emotional abuse, and decided to pursue surgery in order to escape the taunts and harassment of various other TS purists, after he had claimed not only to be "more woman" than the other TS women, but also claimed he was "more woman" than even his estranged ex-wife.
Usher's body was found amidst the refuse of an abandoned apartment where he 'squated' with other transients. The body was found with a copy of Ann Couture's last pulp expose, and it appears Usher was trying to use the book to sheild himself from the shot that killed him. Unfortunately that book had no substance so this was not effective.
Other debris located by CSI detectives include several used pregnancy tests, and beer cans, which Usher apparently had been using as some sort of makeshift toilet.
RIP, John Thomas 'Jennifer' Usher.

| | Enough bickering...
let's see if we can give Eris a break and try discussing some real support issues.
Perhaps this thread can be some impetus for topic discussion. The whole idea is to be as unstructured and free-flowing as possible. Happy accidents are also welcomed.
Just off the top of my head, here are a few suggestions:
The pros and cons of stealth.
Effective or practical stealth vs. total.
Assimulation vs. gender blending
The ethics of disclosure
Who has the right to know and who does not
Our rights vs. the rights of others
Aging and how TS needs differ
Economics and financial planning
Body image
Family relations
Coming out
Social deficits
Barriers to transition
Barriers to acceptance
Spirituality
Journaling
Networking
Researching doctors
Undesirable outcomes and complications
Legal problems
Discrimination
Shopping advice
Non-op and hybrid constructs
GRS techniques and first-person accounts
Making friends with same gender after transition
Fitting in vs. being yourself
Health and fitness special needs
Iatrogenic diseases unique to TSes
Taxonomy and nomenclature
Approaches to therapy
Self-improvement
Dating and relationships
Dealing with rejection
Career
Rehabilitation
Cosmetic surgery and FFS
Body modification and adornment
TSity and culture
History and trivia
Or my shot in the dark could open us up to the whole issue of scope and context. ie, should we restrict content to SRS only or should we broaden only to not cross over too much in the identity politics and socio stuff?
I am NOT trying to mod, but I am trying to make a point. We have covered a lot of stuff in the past, but it is mostly house-keeping issues. I have found that if you concentrate too much on keeping a perfect house, that it is hard to have fun! So perhaps we should try to enjoy ourselve's while making some effort to break out of a rut.
IGNORE the hecklers!!!
Let's try to open up some discussion here, or better still make suggestions directly by starting a new topic.
I would like to see each of us start a separate topic to see if we can coax the lurkers into making this a more organic process.

| | I might remind all that this is a public list, the contents of which are available to anyone anywhere, to use as they see fit.
Andrea James and Usher tend to mine this list for quotes which later appear either in Usher's attacks or on Andrea's web pages. If either find your name and take a disliking to you, you can expect the same as many others at their hands. Usher will indeed dislike you if you do not agree fully with her.
Want to tell your true story as it is or was? This is *not the place*. Find a private group or start one with your friends. I still belong to some that started many years ago.
NO NOT GET SUCKED INTO THIS HELL HOLE!!!
Check the archives, searching "Jennifer Usher". Go back to 1998 and she does the same - attacking anyone, outing some, generally being just nasty.

Yes, I know it is discouraging, and yes, we will all have to be careful to not reveal anything too personal for fear of Billy Boy or Lyle using it against us. But if we really do ignore the men, and get back to discussing SRS, perhaps with a few changes to the charter to close up the loophole that Billy Boy wishes to slither through, we can make something of this group.

| For the record... Jennifer Usher 20:03:50 |
| | Well, well, well... I am certainly a hot topic in this group since I decided to leave. My orginal intention was to simply walk away, but since some people seem confused, I will set the record straight.
A certain kook here, who shall remain nameless, decided to stalk me in the real world. Said kook went to considerable lengths in an attempt to cause me to be fired from my job. Yes, sad but true. That effort has, quite simply, failed. My supervisor expressed some dismay over my style of posting and asked me to no longer post while I am at work (for anyone checking the time of this message, they should note that today is a holiday in California, Cesar Chavez Day, and I am not at work.) She also has stated that she has neither the ability, or the desire, to control the opinions I express when I am not on the clock. No, I have chosen, of my own volition, to simply climb out of this sewer and no longer respond to those here who are obsessed with hatred.
You know, I just got through looking at an article in Tapestry, which I still consider to be pretty much a waste of trees even though the current issue does have two excellent articles. In the article in question, I am actually referred to indirectly. Oh my, such fame. Unfortunately, the author makes a good point that was also made by my supervisor...and I found myself facing a simple question. Why am I allowing myself to be pulled down to certain people's level? And it occured to me that there was no good answer. Then, in responding to my supervisor in email, I mentioned the definition of "kook" from Andrea Jame's excellent web site. The last two paragraphs read:
"Some people find kooks entertaining and take amusement from heckling them, or from prodding and provoking them to ever more kooky online behavior. Some people consider this to be cruel.
At least some kooks are mentally ill or suffer from one or more personality disorders, so this should be done with caution."
Well, I realized my reason for remaining here was the first paragraph. And yes, such behavior is cruel. And, as the second paragraph warns, such requires caution. Some people have serious personality disorders, and they can be dangerous. Or, perhaps more appropriately, a nuisance. No, my job was never in danger. But it was a nuisance, and it took up way too much of my supervior's valuable time.
Okay, just to clear up a few lies that some have suggested. No, the fact that my employer will cover my SRS is not the only reason I work there. In fact, I worked there for about five months as a volunteer (full time I might add), because I believe in what we are doing. We serve a very marginalized population. It is the kind of work I was in college training to do, and given the chance to do it without having to spend another year or more as a starving student, I took it. So yes, I am somewhat altruistic.
Another point I would like to make clear. The opinions I have expressed here are mine, and I do not speak for my employer, or any organization. Further, many of the opinions I have expressed here have been limited to two persons who, in spite of their apparent delusion, do not represent the whole of the transgender community. I work with a very diverse population. I work with people at all levels of transition, from comtemplating, to post-op. No one I have ever worked with has had his or her gender questioned by me, and they never will. If, by some chance, anyone here, or someone with the attitudes of some here were to seek services with my agency, they would be treated with the same respect as others. However, if they engaged in the behavior they have shown here, they would almost certainly be asked to leave, and barred from returning. We don't allow people to cause disruptions that would prevent others from being comfortable. People are free to express opinions, but are expected to do so politely.
Well, having said all of that, I now leave you in peace. The recent acts of one here serve to prove the opinions I have expressed. On the other hand, this group can do just fine without me. And I can do just fine without it. You can reach me at the email I have pro
