| How do I change pressure on a ResMed CPAP S6? Mooser 16:55:36 |
| | I would like to know how to reprogram the pressure setting on my CPAP. I get the impression it is some big secret, but I don't see why it should be. Mine is set for 14mm H20, and I'd like to try it at a lower setting. Does anyone know the magic buttons to push?
Thanks, Norm

| | If anyone has the .pdf version of the clinician's manual for the REMstar Plus LX, I would very much appreciate it if you could email it to me. In lieu of the manual, I am actually looking for the steps in the manual for making titration level adjustments to this CPAP machine. Thanks for any assistance. joelbraun

| waking dreams? Beck 17:46:26 |
| | I have weird dreams been going on for a while now. These particular dreams always revolve around bugs or small animals like mice or rats around my bed. I regularly am waking up in the middle of the night shooing these bugs/animals away but I am asleep. I can always recall it happening though and it takes a minute or two before my mind realises its just a dream. Its not always bugs though. Last week I made some home made sausages and the following night I had this waking dream that a 6ft sausage was crawling up my duvet and I woke up patting down the duvet trying to get rid of it. It may all seem quite funny and it is when I think about it, but its quite scary at the time and I am not sure if I can do anything about it. I know we cannot control our dreams, but is there anything I can do about the physical activity caused by my dreams? Its getting to a point now where I am getting injured at night by falling out of bed in a panic or things like that. One night I jumped out of bed and my legs were numb (or felt numb through a dream) so when I stood up I fell to the ground and twisted my ankle. I don't want to use tablets as a calmer or anything silly like that, but I am wondering if there are certain foods which I should avoid during the day. Maybe there are some foods which make dreams excessive?

| how do I change the pressure settings for a goodknight 418 G Rwness13 18:47:40 |
| | I presently use a Rem star /pro with c-flex with a full face mask. I am a long haul driver and would like to use a goodnight 418g which I recently inherited from my father in the truck sleeper. This machine would be the better of the 2 in the truck as I do not need to use a power inverter to run the heated humidifier as the 418 g water tank is not heated. The problem I have is I currently run @ 15cm and dads machine is set @ 8cm. I need the instructions to change the pressure settings up for my need. any help would greatly appreciated.

| Mailorder suppliers of CPAP Equipment Robert Sparkman 18:49:16 |
| | Hello All,
I'd like to ask folks for online sources of CPAP equipment, and opinions on their service.
I've found these four sources:
www.cpap.com www.cpapman.com www.cpapsuperstore.com www.cpapplus.com
I did comparisons on full face masks only.
What I've found is that www.cpap.com has significantly lower prices, along with free shipping.
CPAPPlus seems to have the next-best prices, along with fairly modest shipping costs, on full face masks.
CPAPSuperstore has very good prices, with free shipping, but not as much selection on full face masks.
CPAPMan has the highest prices, but good selection.
Let's take one item as a comparison...the Ultra Mirage full face mask. CPAP sells for 142 and free shipping. CPAPSuperstore sells for 169.98 and free shipping. CPAPMan sells for 255.23 plus shipping. CPAPPlus sells for 168 plus about 8 dollars shipping..
I don't know if all products across the board are equally priced, or if service is equal, but for this particular item, it looks like www.cpap.com is a very good source pricewise.
Does anyone else have any good sources of CPAP equipment online?
BTW I am shocked at the price difference between a place like www.cpap.com and local medical equipment suppliers. I understand the major issue is that the high prices are subsidizing Medicare recipients.
Regards,
Robert

| Re: RLS PLMS John 17:55:33 |
| | Yup - Have all three here.Due to PLMD I once kicked the wall breaking a toenail.
At present I am on a disability from work for going on four years.
Before the diagnoses of sleep disorders the doc thought that the depression I presented with was due to an anti-depressant deficiency. After four years of being bombarded with various psychotropic drugs to correct what they said was a"chemical imbalance" which only caused horrible side effects the docs thought that maybe they would actually look for the actual cause of the depression. A sleep study was ordered.
The sleep study found OSA, RLS, and PLMD (severe) PLM index >120, Arousal Index >20. Treated with CPAP Once off the antidepressants and on vitamin therapy the RLS creepy crawlies went away. The PLMD, however remained. CPAP keeps me breathing but is horribly cumbersome. To date, the PLMD has been resistant to treatment with Sinemet, Sinemet CR, Mirapex, Gabapentin. They tried modafinil to keep me awake during the day but it soon became ineffective. Note:There is significant evidence to indicate that PLMD may be caused or aggravated by many drugs including antidepressants in particular. Maybe the doctors harmed me with the aggressive anti depressant therapy for depression that was likely caused by the untreated apnea. Who knows. It is important nonetheless to be an informed medical consumer. Beware certain drugs and doctors-inparticular psychiatrists. John "MBankaT" <MBankaT@Lost&MapLess.net> wrote in message news:VJednbTyD5S6oRLcRVn-vA@comcast.com...> On top of Apnea I have both these lovely little sleep disruptors. Even with> a giant king sized bed, my poor wife gets kicked out (literally) too often.> She said I once sent an unsuspecting cat flying through the air!> Anyone else with either of these?> RLS Restless Leg Syndrome> PLMS Periodic Leg Movement Syndrome>

| Vertigo? Sleep Apnea? Tazman 22:26:03 |
| | I've been having a problem that seems to be getting worse. For years i've been feeling "fatigued" but was dealable and in the last year or two i've started taking amino acids which help alot for my way to easy to get sore/pain muscles which can happen just from going up a few flights of stairs, etc. I also have been taking multivitamins, minerals, seperate b complex (which i stopped for reason i will explain later), some smart drugs such as dmae, vinpocetine, and also glutamine, taurine, etc. As of the last maybe year or so i've had on/off lung burning like feeling especially when laying on my back in bed when watching tv, etc. If people are smoking around me or it gets really cold outside i start coughing alittle, etc. and it seems to burn just from that somewhat. As off the last few months i've been getting a constant "drunk" dizzy feeling that seems to be getting worse. Originally i thought it was from a bad eye prescription which i've gotton changed about a month ago and even with the right ones i also don't see things "normally" which is hard to explain but lights glare easily, etc. About 2 months ago i went for a bloodtest in which they checked my folic acid levels, iron, b12 (said it was 2x the norm so i cut my b complex pills, etc. as my multivitamin has some too), HIV, etc. And everything aside from the b12 was normal. So here i am. Always tired still, fatigue easily, on/off lung burning and feeling drunk/dizzy when walking, standing, etc. Ideas? So far i've cut back on taking dmae/vinpocetine and may stop other things too just to see if things change BUT from doing research today it doesn't seem to do anything that i have long term but i did come across vertigo and sleep apnea having the symptoms i have. Well LMK whatever you think. I notiched that "pramiracetam" helps vertigo, concentration, etc. BUT vitaminshoppe doesn't list it from what i can tell but that still leaves my fatigue and chest burning.

| Lost sleep technique Mike Dobony 02:36:53 |
| | When I was much younger and had trouble going to sleep I would create and focus on a video in my head. I used to be able to create a nebula-type vision and quickly fall asleep and have some vivid dreams. What I saw was a growing orange-yellow blob with a dark spot in the middle which eventually grew larger with another orange-yellow blob growing in the middle. I don't recall when this ability stopped and am trying to resurrect this ability. I am exhausted and go to bed, but toss and turn for hours before falling asleep and waking unrefreshed ready for bed as soon as I get up. Anybody else familiar with this phenomenon?

| Respironics M Auto CFLEX: Noisy ? Jared 00:00:58 |

| Cpap and Ear Wax/Wet Brian 11:39:00 |
| | I've been on CPAP for about 7 years now. I'm 45. Ever since I started with CPAP I've had problems with my ears.
1. Wax buildup. Never had a problem before but now I need to have my ears cleaned every 3 months to deal with wax buildup.
2. Wet ears, when I wake in the morning my ears are WET. Don't know if it's sweat, water, etc, just wet.
Anyone else have a similar problem?
Thanks Brian

| Teeth misaligned w. CPAP -- mystery solved Helco 04:22:22 |
| | Some weeks ago I started a thread about the possibility that CPAP was causing my teeth to become misaligned. When I discovered that I could no longer bite off a piece of thread with my front teeth (they no longer meet) I went to my dentist, who sent me to an orthodontist. The problem? Now that I sleep with my mouth shut (I do that automatically with the Mirage Swift nasal pillows) my tongue is pushing against my upper front teeth, which has caused everything to shift. If I can stop the tongue thrusting the teeth will migrate back on their own. How to stop? The orthodontist offered to glue some barbs to the back of my front teeth, but no thanks (I think he was joking, anyway). Maybe I should get a tongue stud? My grandchildren would be infinitely amused. So here's one more thing to try to remember while I'm asleep. I'm probably pushing the teeth during the day, too, and that I can try to catch, and maybe not pushing will become a habit.
Too bad I don't bite my nails. This would definitely have been a cure.

| I need a new Mask, can anyone give me some advice please? Guidofer 03:16:02 |
| | Hi,
I need to buy a replacement mask and for my Remstar Plus CPAP machine. I first used a Respironics Confortselect until a year and a half ago, which worked ok although at the end I needed to adjust it quite oftenly because it started leaking. Next I purchased a Fisher Paykel HC407. The second week after purchasing it, the tube that is attached to the mask started squeaking. The place where I bought it changed it, but soon afterwards it started again so I just got used to it. Now my mask is ready to be changed.
This time I really want to make a good choice and probably the best place to look for advice is with other CPAP users.
What I want in my new mask:
My actual pressure is 5 (I read somewhere that some masks don't work well with low pressure?)
1. Confort (which translates to: No leaks, No squeaks, No adjusting) 2. Size (the smaller the better, I normally read from my Palm before going to sleep and although I got used to doing it with my mask on, the smaller the better) 3. Durability
I really want to buy a top-of-the-line mask this time, a mask that has been proven to work well.
Finally, has anyone had experience with shipping to Canada (Ontario)? how did it go? this time I will purchase it on the internet.
I will really appreciate your comments.
All the best, Guido
