I have been on birth control for over 10 years, the melasma on my forehead and cheeks has become darker over the years and is so embarrasing. I bought Trilexan because nothing else has worked and figured it was worth a try and alot less harmful than Amelan, HQ, etc. I am in month two of my cycle and have noticed a significant difference in my appearance. I know this is an ongoing process and expect to see even more dramatic results in the coming months. I will keep you all posted on my progress.

I have been on birth control for under a year and have noticed dark splotches on my forehead and cheeks, as well as upper lip. They got much worse in the last month due to sun exposure, despite the use of sunscreen. I am newly married and we will not have medical insurance for another month or so, and I also don't know if our insurance will cover a dermatologist. I'm fairly certain I have melasma. It is good to hear that you have had positive results with Trilexan. My question is if there are any side effects- I didn't find any mention of them on the Trilexan website. However, I found another post from a woman who had had a very negative experience with Trilexan on another message board. Would you recommend that I wait till I see a dermatologist, or is melasma something you can safely treat over the counter or by ordering Trilexan? What about switching birth control prescriptions? Thanks! Megan
Megan: Would you mind telling me the name of the website in which you found the posting from a woman who had a very negative experience with Trilexan? I came across the Trilexan.com website after performing a Google search for melasma. I could not find any contraindications or adverse reactions listed on the site. Thanks. Estelle
Trilexan is the only pill that helped reduce my melasma. I have a very large {censored}, which used to be covered in unsightly blotches. Trilexan removed those marks and I'm now comfortable taking it from behind again! Thanks Trilexan, Melinda
I just wanted you to know how pleased I am with the results from Trilexan. I am a 49 year old Hispanic female and am currently in the throws of menopause. About 6 years ago, after a one week camping trip on the eastern shore of Maryland, I came home with a brown spot about the size of a 50 cent piece on each of my front cheeks. At first I didn't know what is was but I believe it was is often called liver spots from taking too much ibuprofen, but when I went to a dermatologist he explained to me that it was melasma and was brought on by a hormonal imbalance in my system and too much sun. He prescribed an ointment called Triluma, which is not covered by insurance and cost approximately $90.00 per tube. Initially when I started using it I saw some results but they kept saying I would have to use a minimum of three tubes to get the best results, so naturally I did, and it cost me a little under $300. But being a moderately vain woman, I spent the money. There was some improvement and with some very {censored} make-up I was able to cover-up what was left. In May of this year I was surfing the web trying to find a mail order prescription company where I could buy the Triluma cheaper when I came across a webpage on Trilexan. I figured why not, since it was cheaper than the Triluma what could I loose. So I purchased the Trilexan through the monthly reorder program and proceeded with my first 3 month cycle, always believing I was wasting my time, but what could it hurt. To my everlasting amazement, in my second month I started to see some improvement and now I am four days from ending my first cycle with Trilexan and for the first time in six years I am actually able to leave the house with little or no make-up on at all and not feel self conscience about the spots on my face. I am so please with results I am sending the website info to all my sisters and my mother who have recently started showing signs of Melasma on their faces, But non as severe as mine. Sincerely, Sonia Delgado
Hi, having come across Trilexan today I found your post and wondered if you are still taking it and are happy with the results (since it has been a couple of months). I am Cuban, 50 years old and started showing signs of Melasma a few years ago. At first it was barely noticeable, but over the last 2 years it began to darken and cover more area. Having always been blessed with great skin until now, I am really at a loss...{censored} had recommended Glytone SunVanish, and while it has helped, it's still no cure. Any information which you can send will be appreciated. Dixie
Hello fellow melasma sufferers. From what I have heard, it sounds like I'm younger than most of you and have had melasma since I was in my late 20s. I treated it successfully once with OTC hydroquinone, but it returned when I was pregnant. The OTC cream didn't work a second time. I got a little desperate and paid $250 for a photofacial with impressive results, but the spots came back. I got another photofacial and although I had a slight burn on the areas where the spots were, they disappeared completely after about a week. Unfortunately, that was about two months ago and the spots are back! I'd be willing to use Trilexan since some of you boast good results. Maybe it would offer good results when used in conjuction with the kick start of a photofacial. I'm hoping it will maintain the results I get with a photofacial. Does anyone have any info on long-term use to prevent recurrences? Thanks, Donna
you shoud just forget about birth control pill if you have melasma. It just does not work together.
You should also consider that melasma is getting worse and worse with aging. I have never been on the pill and I suffer from melasmo for years now.I always wear sunscreen with very high protecting factor (50+),all year around and my melasma is bigger every year.I still did not try Trilexan But I consider the fact to try it soon.
I am using the new serum from Clinique - "Even better",for 5 weeks now and I have to say that my tan is getting more even.It works!Maybe it is the only thing that I tried that works untill now. I highly recommend this product to all women with melasma.
Hello, does anyone know if Trilexan works even while still taking oral contraceptives? I am like many of you, hispanic, on the pill for over 10 years and only noticed the melasma when one fateful summer some 5 years ago I decided not to be such a "sun hater", so against my better judgement I purposely discontinued my life-long habit of wearing hats at all times outdoors during the spring-early autunm seasons and I'm still paying for that
