| Does fish oil cause tinnitus? Ronald Leemhuis 06:03:11 |
| | I have been taking 2 grams of fish oil (360 mg EPA + 240 mg DHA) twice daily for the last two or three months, and over that time I have experienced tinnitus that comes on about 4-5 hours after a dose and abates gradually by the time of the next dose. This tinnitus is associated with some burning and tingling sensations in the anterior thighs, legs and feet.
Because I wondered about trace neurotoxins in the fish oil, I switched to a different brand, this time "salmon oil" in the same dose. Same story.
I haven't seen any references that point to fish oil as a cause of tinnitus, but it certainly is for me. The common thread I see in various references is that antiinflammatory medications (COX inhibitors) often cause tinnitus in high dose and that fish oil inhibits COX enzyme.
Has anybody else noticed this effect?

| The rationale behind 'sleeping without a pillow'. Francispoon 07:36:51 |
| | According to my doctor, sleeping without a pillow is the _nature's way_ of sleeping. Sleeping without a pillow may cause the body to rotate this way or that in a rather awkward manner. But that is how our subconscious mind directs the body to 'unlock' the various 'compressed' parts in the body, and in the case of the t patient, possibly a compressed nerve in the spine.
I had been suffering from high-pitched sound until a compressed nerve in my spine was released.

| Possible Migraines Guest 20:51:50 |
| | I've never had a migraine before, and I think thats what my symptoms describe. Please give me your thoughts on the following incidents.
Last week on a two different days(maybe three?) my vision in my left eye deteriorated, then returned followed by a dull headache(not too painful, but noticable). I had great difficulty reading as my vision was obstructed by zig zag lines, but just in the left eye. The lines are hard to describe, it was like the actual line was completely out of focus, kind of colorful, and anything in my field of vision that wasn't obstructed by it was out of focus depending on its "vincinity" to the "lines". Then yesterday I had the same symptoms except in the right eye, and the visual disturbances lasted longer, and I had some speech problems. During the visual problems I found my self at a sudden loss of words, I knew what I wanted to say, but my vocabulary was suddenly very limited. The headache afterwards was more intense, but not unbearable and the speech problems slowly went away as the day progressed. A nap followed by a couple of beers seemed to help matters greatly.
So, is this symptomatic of migraine? I think I should see a physician, maybe a neurologist?
It occured to me yesterday that all this started happening after I got hdtv set up in my home theater room. I have a DLP projector. I used to only watch a movie on occaision, and browse the web pretty frequently with the projector. Anyway, after setting up the hdtv, I started watching in 3-4 hour sessions. I'm pretty sure the evening preceeding each of these incidents included 3-4 hours of DLP HDTV viewing. DLPs are supposed to trigger migraines in some people, and maybe the extended viewing of moving pictures, as opposed to web browsing, on it could be causing problems. Could this be triggering my problems the next day about 10 hours later?
In the meantime I've decided to stay away from the DLP. If that turns out to be the problem, it will be for sale soon, though I'm sure the none of you want it.
Thanks.

| Heavy Metals and Tinnitus Guest 10:17:42 |
| | I am interested to see others experiences having worked around or with metals and later being afflicted with tinnitus. I have reseached a number of web sites about heavy metal toxicty and the metal lead can cause hearing loss and disturbances. It accumulates in brain tissue causing cell damage and strutural changes in the brain. I have a number of other physical ailments including movement disorders ( dystonia) and have been thru the wringer with psychiatric diagnoses ( labels). Many of the psycho active psychiatric drugs contain metals in the ingredients. The brain being an electical neuro trasmitter and receiver (among what ever else) would certainly be affected or changed by the addition of metals, (electricity taking the path of least resistance). I know a small geranium crystal radio reciever is capable of producing an aduible output with no additonal power source. Toxified brains may be capable of the same, just simple speculation. Have many suffers attempted to be genuinely tested for heavy metal contamination? I have read that virtually everyone in the USA born before the 1970's or 80's has high lead deposits. Lead solder on food cans was only banned in the USA in 1995. I may also add I have experienced some really terrible skin rashes ( about the best diagnosis I could get) involving head, neck throat..other areas...which could be a symptom of heavy metal toxicity. Maybe this thread will provide more insight into this possiblity. Richard

The first line is:>Adding trimebutine to rizatriptan therapy appears to hasten the resolution >of migraine attacks, according to a study.
Apparently, this is an older drug that is available as a generic used for IBS. The article is quoting a report in Cephalgia.

| Tinnitus and Sugar Dave C. 06:00:53 |
| | I have had ringing at a low level for some time, but these pastfew months things have changed. When I have a sugar load like ice cream, cake and frosting (recently) or other highly processed foods, within a few hours the ringing becomes intense and lasts for almost exactly two days, then goes away back to the low level.
I have been trying to make this connection, but just recently this proved to be the case.
Can anyone reflect any ideas about this?
Thanks, -- Dave C.

| Aneurysm Support Group Adam Creasy 19:58:02 |
| | Hello, My name is Adam Creasy and about 2 years ago my fiance was diagnosed with an unruptured aneurysm on her left carotid atery. It has been her dream since then to create an online aneurysm support group for our area. The website we have created is: http://www.yougivemehope.com
It is basically a place where anyone can come, sign up and start discussing their various stories. The page includes links to helpful websites regarding aneurysms.
I think it would be a great asset to anyone going through life with an aneurysm or has known someone with one. I think a lot of people just don't know where to turn or who to talk to. They sometimes get the feeling that they are alone. I want this site to offer them hope and comfort in knowing that they are not alone and there are other people out there who care.
If you could please help me get the word out about this site, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time.
Also, the site is currently under construction but is fully operational so please feel free to take a look or offer some suggestions. Thanks/Adam

| Occipital neuralgia/ Neck pain? HorseLvr 09:43:50 |
| | Hi I have been battling this on and off again pain for 15 years and have had numerous x-rays and MRIs that show.... nothing. So I always go to PT for 6 weeks and usually by the end the muscle spasm has gone and so has the migraine, until it pops up again. I will have an ongoing migraine through most of those 6 weeks though and none of meds will work because the pain in my neck just seems to cycle it again and again. This was the worst episode though, I couldn't lay on my back at all or my right side without intense pain on the whole side of my face, neck and shoulder. The right side of the back of my neck is where the spasm and pain are always centered.
My PT saw this article and gave me a copy of it, it sounds very promising. Has anyone had anything like this done before?

| LLLT treatment for tinnitus Carl 20:12:19 |
| | Hi -- I'm a newbie that's been lurking for a few months. I'm wondering if anyone in this group has knowledge or experience with LLLT (Low Level Laser Therapy) for tinnitus. Apparently this has been a well developed method in Eastern Europe for a couple of decades, however I wasn't able to find any mainstream (Lancet, etc.,) reviews of the research. Any help with this??

| Perseid Meteor Shower Corvus 19:29:11 |
| | Greetings Group, As long as a lot of us are going to be up holding ice packs (or hot packs) against our heads this weekend I would like to recommend a distraction. Take a look at the sky to the NNE anytime from late this Saturday evening until dawn Sunday for the Perseid Meteor Shower. You may get lucky. The phenomenon happens every year about this time. Sometimes the view is rich and sometimes its puny. Actually the meteors are from the tail of Comet Swift-Tuttle. Swift-Tuttle orbits the sun and so do we and each year we run into its tail. If you want details, Google up the magazine "Sky and Telescope". BobB
