Not content to kill you with their fries or the buns they serve the burgers on, McDonalds adds hydrogenated fats to the meat itself, in the form of their "grill seasoning." The 1/4 pound patty on the Quarter Pounder and Big & Tasty contains A WHOLE GRAM of the killer Franklenstein fats. That's on top of 7 g of saturated fat. Is this premeditated murder, or a lesser crime, like negligent homicide? All those times I ordered their burgers "no bun." I had no idea. Bastards. Go check it out on their website, then tell the whole world. http://app.mcdonalds.com/bagamcmeal?process=item&itemID=6

You're quite welcome. Let's everyone consider calling them toll free to ask why they are so intent upon killing their customers.

"You can thank the Republicans in Congress and the White House for that. The fast food industry gives huge amounts of money, almost exclusively
to the GOP. "
Well, at least now we know where you;re coming from. Even if your assertion that the fast food industry contributes almost exclusively to the GOP is true, which I doubt, so what? Answer this simple question. Does typical fast food have more transfat, less transfat, or about the same than it did when Democrats controlled the White House and/or Congress? The fact is there is an active campaign to reduce transfat that has been going on quite well under a Republican president and Congress. Most fast food companies have reduced or eliminated transfat. And have you ever heard of the new labeling requirements for transfat to help consumers avoid it? See all the pretty packages that say ZERO transfat? How stupid can you be?

I say all of this is just silly to even bother debating about on this particular NG. I haven't set foot in a McDonald's for literally months now, and frankly, now that I'm heading towards a year of low-carbing, I'm starting to really like not being a slave to the fast food industry anymore.
But I'm all for the industry's right to exist and people's corresponding right to stuff themselves silly with prepackaged precooked carby crap.

Anyways... "
Yes, very good point! I rarely visit a fast food business too. If I'm traveling, and need to stop somewhere that only has fast food, I usually look for fried chicken. Of course I eat that without the carb coating.

Wow! I don't even like McDonald's burgers, but I had been ordering some burgers without the bun when I travel because that is something I could always locate easily. I was actually feeling somewhat "virtuous" about it. I certainly knew that the burgers were not low-fat, but I had no idea that transfats were added!

Yeah, that's a problem. Note that the rounding down hides the amount of transfat in the seasoning - bad idea, IMO.
:> The 1/4 pound patty on the Quarter Pounder and Big & Tasty contains A :> WHOLE GRAM of the killer Franklenstein fats. That's on top of 7 g of :> saturated fat.
The 1 g from the meat is not a problem. Those trans fats are helpful, as it the sat fats in the absense of excess carbs.
:> Is this premeditated murder, or a lesser crime, like negligent :> homicide?
Well, grilling the meat would be better than frying in partially hydrogenated oils. But they can switch to a fully hydrogenated oil to solve that problem, methinks.

Right. The day Bush came into office, Karl Rove ordered all fast-food chains to start buying trans fats from Halliburton and use them in all fast foods. When Clinton was wolfing down BKs and Big Macs, they were heart-healthy. Only side effect was that it made you want to have your interns switch to tube steak.

You're correct. I confess, I did eat at McDonalds and Burger King a few months ago when I was working more... however, the only things I could order there, aside from the obvious sugar-free drink selections, were the garden salads. That's it.

You call it dogma, I call it a rule of thumb. Sure, you can eat in a fast food place, but what does one get out of it? Fast food for me has become handfuls of almonds, chunks of cheese, berries, a nibble of bacon, whatnot. If I'm totally short of time and away from my kitchen stash, I'll do an Atkins bar. That's decent fast food.

I'm not convinced that an Atkins bar is any better than a grill chicken salad had from one of the fast food places. Are you? Consider that they longer you are LCing, the more like it is to find yourself in a situation where you can't do what you normally would do. Keep at it, you'll see.

Makes me seem.... thinner? Not coming up with anything else, Rog.
To restate, I see no percentage in my choosing to set foot in a fast food restaurant over grabbing my own brand of 'fast food' from an Atkins bar, or other LC snacks available at most convenience stores.
If I truly crave real food I can always wait for it - I sincerely doubt your implication that people are somehow forced by circumstances to visit a McDonalds or Burger King.
How about this - fast food restaurants are generally what made me fat in the first place. Therefore, I choose to resist temptation by avoiding it.
BTW, I'm glad they have a spinach salad - I didn't notice that when I first looked over the list (honestly). I doubt that will motivate me to hit the Golden Arches in the forseeable future, but correction noted anyways.
