Does anyone know if there is now, or anything comming down the road with either hydrocodone bitartrate without acetaminophen or a sustained release Hydrocodone instead of the ole everyday Norco, Lortab, Lorcet, Vicodin, Hycodone etc.?

That doesn't seem likely, because the acetaminophen is probably there for more than just medicinal purposes. It helps prevent abuse by people who might otherwise do so, but have enough sense not to destroy their livers by taking too much. As for those who don't understand the danger to their livers; well, they won't be abusing it for long. -- Juba www.masterjuba.com

Patrick.
It is my understanding one can get Hydrocod w/o tylenol as well as higher dose Hyrdocod at a compounding pharmacy. Dunno about hydrocod-contin.
It is also my understanding that oxycod turns to part hydrocod as metabolite.

Just what a few compounding pharmacies in my area are selling--which is compounded 15mg of hydrocodone/50mg of apap and even 20/50 and 30/50. It keeps it Schedule 3, at least for the time being.
Ive also seen a Texas compounding pharmacy offer these.
it is definately available without apap in it. I have had prescribed several times I received it at wal-mart in illinois.
Since I have moved to florida (2yrs) I have not received any. I have been going to CVS. So I am not sure if it is something to do with the change in my doctor or the change in the pharmacy. I have noticed a difference between the two.
I recently asked my doctor who works for "The Infamous HMO", you know who I mean, for hydrocodone without acetaminophen or perhaps with less. He was completely unsympathetic with my concern for my liver and more concerned with the classification of the drug and his potential legal trouble. He told me that he could not prescribe me what I was asking for because it has a "street value".
I am not a drug abuser, I am a disabled truck driver with chronic neck pain. I only take 2 to 4 tabs per day, and only for pain.
I have to tell all of you that as a truck driver, I saw people selling and taking prescription drugs including the hydrocodone/acetaminophen 5/500 mg that I am being prescribed.
It makes me feel horrible to see that narcotic drugs are being purposefully poisoned with unnecessary compounds like acetaminophen. Don't get me wrong, it is a fine mild analgesic and has a purpose in it's own right, but has no business being mixed with narcotics just to make them poison if someone uses too much.
Think back to the 1970's when the US government poisoned the Mexican and Colombian marijuana crops with paraquat, a defoliant. That lead to people getting sick and later having chronic lung problems. So what right? "They were just a bunch of drug abusers anyway, right?", I say sarcastically.
Just getting my opinion out there, not trolling. I respect differing opinions.
So anyway Patrick, my doctor confirms that it exists. Good luck getting your hands on any.
Both 5mg plain hydrocodone and generic non-timed-release 5mg oxycodone are available unadulterated (plain with nothing else added). I react strangely to both acetaminophen (bizarre uncomfortable sensation in upper abdomen, not the stomach though) and ibuprofen (causes so-called allergy induced asthma in a major way with me). My doc knows this (Group Health co-op) and prescribes either the hydro or the oxy for occasional incapacitating sacrum issues once or twice per year. Although, Group Health seems to have access to prescribing medications that aren't available in the regular pharmacy scene. Their pharmacies are their own. I recommend asking your pharmacist about these meds first, and if he says they're available then ask your doctor. If your doctor is saying that unadulterated hydro or oxy "has a street value", well...what...vicodin and percocet don't?
Just read today online that a panel is recommending to the FDA to take "combo" meds off the market. Was just wondering what to ask my doctor for when my prescription runs out. People that have been on pain medication for several years can not just go "cold turkey". The ER's would start filling up with patients and withdrawal.
I have fibromyalgia pain and have been taking Hydrocodone for almost 2 years. I have asked my Dr many times for a RX pain med without acetaminophen for a year, but the response was always no, all the pain meds have it. That the apap is there to HELP your pain. Now we are hearing on the news (something that we always knew) is that it is killing our livers. I am not a drug abuser, I just want to LIVE without pain, not die from the acetaminophen. Where can we get a RX but from our Dr who refuses to help????
