I think I need to make it clear that my criticism of Autreat lies only in the accomodation arrangements and not with the principles or the organisation behind it.

i understood that. i also understand that it is not possible to create such an event with single rooms for everyone and at the same time make it affordable for everyone and that's what people need to remeber.

my god thats horrible sorry how many autistics would want to be in same room > all night with others.
Somewhere between 40 and 100, if past Autreats are anything to go by. Autscape can't handle more than about 40 participants anyway. To have single rooms would mean we can only accept half as many people, which hardly seems fair to those who don't get to come.
ok i am not going anyway but it something organisers need to think of for > future.
The organisers of both Autreat and Autscape make the decisions they do to allow as many people as possible to attend and enjoy the events. For Autscape, to provide a venue with single rooms would nearly triple the cost. In our judgement, that would exclude more people than having to share with one matched roommate would. *If* there are any beds left, people who want to pay an extra fee for a single room can do so. (But there is no guarantee there will be extra space. It is better to allow more people the experience of attending than to have some people have a little more space.) Those who really cannot cope with sharing a room can book accommodation off-site. I would be concerned, however, that people who cannot cope with being around others won't be well suited to the group retreat environment that is essential to the event.
Having lived with strangers as roommates in college, I will likely do all right sharing a room with 3 others as long as none of them smoke. First on your list should be earplugs. Still it would be nice to have my own room...

Yes, true. I like that sort of distance too (from strangers) but could probably do it for a couple of days if I really wanted to go to something like this. I think if it is beyond your limits to do that then that's fair enough.
I would not want people touching my "stuff" either never mind the> security risk even if that is just accidental damage not theft. "Oh> I'll just pick this camera up and twiddle with that and see what it> does"
no, i don't like people touching my stuff either, not that i've got camera like that. i used to have one a pentax slr, long time ago, so i can use cameras and i sometimes use nicks but i'm definiately not skilled with the mechanics of them.
The point is it would not because I would by sharing with a stranger> be in public space and somewhere in the small print is the duty of> care that you owe to safeguarding your possesions.
yes.okay.
When I was a professional I had to take out a much more rigoros policy> on my equipment to cover me for public space.
understood. i am going to the seaside again next week. i shall borrow nicks camera and hope to make some good photos

My camera and PDA are never far from my body when I'm in a public place. They're normally attached to the belt of my pouch/bum bag or in my hand. I guess for my wedding I will have to entrust them to someone else for a short time because the beat up black canvas pouch just will not "go" with the wedding dress at all.

no, they definately wouldn't look right then again if you have a silk bum bag made to match ?

What about camping facilities?

that's probably what i would do, i simply couldn't afford the about 300 pounds it would cost me and nick just to stay there. that and travel/spending money i would need about 450 pounds if i don't go as a presenter or organiser. but it's academic anyway as that week i am busy, the 27 is my wedding aniversary and it'll be my third handfasting and i'd raher spend some money on that.
