I was forced to take seroquel for over 3 months. The doctors told me it would give me a 'natural sleep'. I was getting 0 to 2 hours of sleep at night while being on seroquel. I specifically asked the doctor to let me take trazadone, a pill I came in with, she refused. I asked for Ambien that I came in on, she refused. I told her to change my medication so I could sleep or let me out of their stinking mental hospital, she refused. It was then that the doctor told my family to start looking for a state mental hospital. All the idiot doctor had to do was to prescribe a sleeping pill for me and she refused to do it. I have lost my job, health insurance, my life savings over the past 6 years because of what the Prairie View doctors did to me. Other doctors followed suit and put me on anti-psychotics. I was just depressed and could not sleep AT ALL. I didn't know what the pill was when it was first given to me, I was just told to TAKE IT!!! I read an internet newspaper article today that the same facility I was at forced a 3 year old girl to take serequel, and it killed her. I am intensely angry at those doctors forcing me to take serequel, because it didn't work at all for sleep. I have lost everything because of it. I was told to go to therapists to 'talk it out" all she told me was that I was feeling sorry for myself for losing my job and that the doctor 'knew' what she was doing. I am adimant that the doctor didn't have a clue to what she was doing. I have come to believe it is a standard medication that they like to prescribe, because the out-patient doctor liked it too! I finally thru a two year old tantrum and absolutely refused to keep taking it. That's when the second doctor finally took me off seroquel and allowed me to take trazadone again, which wasn't perfect for sleep, but was certainly better than getting no sleep at all with serequel. After I lost all insurance, job, savings, another doctor put me on Klonazapam, and I actually get 8 hours of sleep at night. Why it took "smart" doctors 3 months to finally come up with a pill that works for me, I'll never know, and I'll never forgive them. All I can do is complain, and if it keeps one other person from losing everything they had because of it, it's worth it. This happened in 2003 to me, and I have not been able to find good work since. After I lost my job, a doctor finally came up with Klonazapam, and now I can successfully drive my car across town and sleep. The doctor at Prairie View told me that I was 'used to' not getting any sleep (in other words, just get used to it). She claimed that no doctor could prescribe medications for sleep. She was so wrong. I'll always regret the day I stepped foot into Prairie View in Newton, Kansas. They are the absolute worst. They actually pinned me down on the bed one night and gave me a shot in my ass, because I had been on the phone talking to my cousin, and hadn't come to the counter for my medications yet. I have never been so mistreated in my life than when I was at Prairie View. Tell everyone you know to get a different doctor if your pills don't start working within a few days to a week. I was forced to stay at Prairie View for 3 weeks, and their serequel never even began to simulate sleep. Then I was contined to be forced to take serequel by a different doctor in out-patient, and he continued to force me to take it, for a total of 3 months or more. It has ruined me financially, it has ruined my career. When I die, just pour a bottle of serequel over my grave, and tell the stinking doctors that they finally 'won'.
I am glad someone else is refusing to take serequel. I was told it was for sleep, and it did nothing of the kind. I have lost so much at the hands of supposedly trained psychiatrists. I could not even drive across town on it. No one wants to hire me since this has happened to me. They act as if I am retarded or something. You have virtually nothing to say about your own care when you step foot into a mental facility. They automatically assume you are nuts.
I seriously cannot believe 'professionals' are still prescribing Seroquel. My psychs had me on it, and when I continuously told them it was not working, would they take me off it? No, they just kept upping the doses. This drug has ruined my life..I'm nothing like I was before I started taking it. Even the first night I took it, my vision randomly went completely black & I ended up having to crawl up the stairs because I couldn't feel my legs or see. I hope that one day this pill is no longer available to make people more screwed up than we already feel like we are.
