| Desipramine works great for me, but the side effects are too much. Ideas? Guest 07:48:27 |
| | Hi I lurk this group from time to time.
Diagnosed as ADD without the H.
Desipramine works WONDERS for me for the ADD - it's like I have come out of a fog. I can get things done, do work (with is technical in nature and requires a lot of attention to detail), make plans.
anyway - the bad part - I get very anxious, especially around people when I'm on desipramine. I get angry a lot and very snappish and irritable. I feel at some level very depressed - and I seem to always have a scowl on my face - its even hard to force a smile.
Is there anything I can take along with the desipramine that will mitigate this, without affecting the beneficial action?
also - I have never been above 25-50mg. Does anxiety go away at a higher dose? (and straterra didn't really work for me)

Doctor Offers Alternative To Ritalin For Kids With ADD, ADHD Program Uses Exercise, Movement
Excerpt:
BOCA RATON, Fla. -- The use of drugs to treat mood and behavior disorders in children is rising dramatically. It's estimated that nearly 10 million school-age children are on stimulant drugs such as Ritalin to treat Attention Deficit Disorder and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder.
While some experts say medication is the best treatment option, a South Florida doctor is pushing a different approach.
Boca Raton psychologist Dr. Brian Sheen has developed a program called Clear Minded Children.
"We teach them how to relax," Sheen said. "We teach them how to focus. We teach them how to concentrate and direct their mind -- how to interact and make better choices."
The program focuses on exercise and movement. Kids mimic some of their favorite activities and relax through fluid yoga poses.
"Every parent with a kid who's been diagnosed with ADD or ADHD knows if you want to get a quick change in their behavior and attitude, get them out doing a bunch of exercises," Sheen said.

ADHD prescriptions may face govt inquiry
The federal government wants an investigation into whether doctors are prescribing Ritalin to pre-schoolers against the advice of drug makers.
Parliamentary secretary for health Christopher Pyne said he was "very concerned" by revelations that some doctors were prescribing the medication to children under six to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and would ask the Therapeutic Goods Administration on Monday to investigate the use of the drugs, The Weekend Australian newspaper reported.
Pharmaceutical maker Novartis told the newspaper doctors should not be prescribing Ritalin to children under six as the "safety and efficacy in this age group have not been established", but a Sydney pediatrician and ADHD specialist said it is common for young children with serious ADHD to be put on the stimulant drug.
Novartis also warned against the long-term use of methylphenidate - which covers drugs branded Ritalin, Attenta and Concerta - because of incomplete safety data.

I'd agree with most of this list, but Linus Torvalds? Before most people had ever heard of Linux, he was delegating tasks (and rather effectively), so the argument that it's "out of control" seems a bit ignorant.

Noted. We will continue to heart Linus.

| | I have offered Jan and Ilena to end this war on more than one occasion. Neither have accepted.
Jan has clearly said:
The peace must come from you. Your LIES and postings with FAKE names show you are DESPICABLE.
[Happy anniversary to me. Then you post as Freddie. It was NOT your wife who e-mailed me. It was YOU]
You have repeatedly LIED. Your so-called *peace offer* was also FAKE. Posted for the sole reason, you wanted the websites which are a result of your behavior and LIES...to disappear.
If YOU want peace. STOP LYING. Stop accusing others of what YOU yourself are guilty of. Change your despicable behavior. Sadly this behavior IS why you were disbarred. STOP these newsgroups for your insane need to argue.
------------
Clearly, with Jan's standard of accusing and anyone with whom she disagrees of lying, since she does not understand what a lie it, it would be impossible for me to "stop lying" unless I either 1) stopped posting and/or 2) merely posted, "Yes Jan, you are correct."
Neither is going to happen.
Further, Ilena has flatly refused refused to even consider peace. In fact, she has demonstrated that she will continue her relentless attacks even when she gets her answers. Thus, with her, there is no peace.
The ONLY solution to this is to impose a modified (modified in the sense that it is not done with software or for spamming) Usenet Death Penalty. They are Usenet polluters, polluting Usenet with their bile.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Usenet_Death_Penalty
where no one, under any circumstances, respond to any of their messages, for any reason. If they post something that needs to be refuted, commencing a new thread without reference to them, would be proper.
If everyone signs on to this, they will be left like a junk yard dog, barking at passing cars that do not care about them.
To be truly effective, everyone should either explicitly or implicitly sign on to this.
Thus, as of tomorrow, the 230th Anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, Ilena Rosenthal and Jan Drew are subject to
Usenet Death Penalty.
May they Rest in Perfidy.

<nodding> As someone who is more visual/kinesthetic, I could totally agree....if I could "draw a picture" of something, I could understand it much better...it was not until halfway through Algebra II in high school that I finally "got it"...my teacher compared it to Helen Keller finally understanding what "water" meant! <BG>
When I went to college (some 18 years later..."life" intervened <g>), I took "college prep algebra" because it had been so long since I had math...and talked to the teacher beforehad....she was this little lady from India, and I suggested that I treat it like I foreign language--it has its own spelling, syntax, etc...if you "mispell" a word, (i.e., "2+3=6") you get it wrong...she thought about it for a moment and said she could work with me using that concept...
It helped a lot....I passed it with an "A" and went on to intermediate algebra (over the summer) with the same grade...and on to college algebra with the same....it is not my "favorite" by any means...but using that idea has helped me....
But geometry has always been stronger for me....
<sigh>
My soon-to-be 11th grader (the one who is 16 and dealing with ADHD/gifted/aspergers/SID) has signed up for physics and calculus-prep...I have already told him he is beyond me (though his brother took physics...and each quarter they do a project....and he is looking forward to that....especially the one that they do the catapult/trebuchet--and yes, I am going to look for a little stuffed cow for him to fling <G>...the teacher had not heard of "...the Holy Grail" when his older brother took it--I highly suggested she rent the movie before they do that one, since the whole class would be quoting lines--and I knew that younger bro would be if/when he ened up in her class later <BG>)

Hi,
I've been depressed for about a year, before that it was undiagnosed ADHD. I just recently started taking a stimulant med, Adderall. It does good things, but I get this really crappy "high" feeling that won't let me think while I'm on it. I do get a little bit of a focused feeling as well, moreso right after a dose increase. The focus is GREAT - takes a hammer to the depression like nothing else, however, it's fleeting and overwhelmed by the crappy high feeling.
I'm guessing this is from the Adderall stimulating Dopamine vs. Norepinephrine, respectively. Has anyone else had experience with drugs that stimulate Norepinephrine exclusively? I've tried Strattera (not a stimulant, I know.), which was fantastic for about 2 days before it pooped out (then again, that was with a fast doseage increase, 25 for 2 days, then 40 - could that be the problem?). Like how do Dexedrine or Ritalin stack up in this regard? Thanks!

| ADHD Drug Abused By College Students To Study, Party Jan Drew 05:40:52 |
| | http://www.firstcoastnews.com/news/topstories/news-article.aspx?storyid=60264
Excerpts:
"At first it made me feel jittery," says Kelly, who has asked us not to use her real name. Kelly is in her 20s. She is a college graduate and a businesswoman here on the First Coast. Kelly says she uses Adderall several times a week. At first, she says it was to lose weight.
"I've lost 40 pounds in six months," says Kelly. But weight loss isn't the only thing Adderall does for her. "Concentration, you wouldn't believe how much I got accomplished at work."
Kelly doesn't have ADHD nor does she have a prescription for Adderall. She says she doesn't need one. "I got it from a friend of a friend."
Finding the drug on college campuses is easy to do.
"So many people can get it from their doctor and then they sell it," says Cameron Petrie, a sophomore at UNF.
Dr. Burnakis says those who use Adderall might as well be using another amphetamine called meth, because Adderall causes the same affect on the body.

| Suggestions for Bringing Peace to ASAD Caitriona Mac Fhiodhbhuidhe 23:07:10 |
| | I thought we could just start a thread on this, rather than have it all over the place in several other threads.
So far, we've had several folks arguing with quidnuncs. We've also had people suggesting that all quidnuncs be deemed "net dead."
I propose that those of us who have become targets institute option number 2. Not that any one of us can force that choice on others, but it seems to be the most viable option for many of us when dealing with quidnuncs.
Any other suggestions, viable or otherwise?
(Of course, I can think of some "or otherwise," but I'm choosing to keep those to myself. <weg>)
