I was diagnosed wiht asthma last year. This past week has been different because I feel wiped out after doing tasks around the house, enough that I have to take a nap. This happens at work as well. I really can't feel if my chest is "tight or not" and I am not sure when albutoral is necessary. My doc wants me to use it whenever I wheeze or feel out of breath for a long time. The times I definitely still feel out of breath is when I climb stairs and when I shovel the snow(of which we've had a lot of this year). Should I take this new feeling of being tired as my lungs working very hard...and that I should be taking my albutoral? If I breath out in one quick breath I still hear that great wheezing noise. But I don't think my "chest" is tight. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Are you on any other medications besides albuterol? Why does your doctor feel you have asthma?
I am concerned that you appear to have been given albuterol without any other treatment aimed at preventing asthma symptoms.

I used to hang out at WEBMD and Dr Enright does not think that tiredness is symptom of asthma. That said, I did think that the tiredness I had was associated with my asthma. I can recall having to take a nap after an hour working outside with an electric hedge clipper! If you do use your albuterol, do you find you cough up a bunch of stuff?
Have you thought it was mucas in your lungs. Or maybe your stressed and you concentrate so hard on your self. Or its ghow you are sitting or standing? (The postioning)
I have not had asthma long (couple of years) and struggle sometimes to know when it is causing me difficulty. My diagnosis and management was handled by an allergist. I had an episode where I was walking a short distance in the woods and felt completely exhausted. I felt like the air was full of pollen / dust, but no one else felt that way. I wanted to lay on the rocks and go to sleep. I didn't understand. I used my albuterol and we left right away. I felt better. When I called the allergist's office, the nurse explained that I was having an asthma attack - that feeling that the air was thick was my airways swelling (inflammation). You're not getting enough oxygen and that makes you feel tired. I had to adjust my thinking and follow their advice. I use my albuterol when I have a cold now. Sometimes I wait too long, but if I do, that odd sounding cough starts and I know I need the albuterol. I too will get exhausted just climbing a flight of stairs or doing some other simple task. But that happens after a cold or with a sinus flare up and I know that I need to use my albuterol. Then I feel relief and the mucus starts to clear.
and I take Singulair each night which is great! Following my initial diagnosis, I took Adviar, rhinocort, zyrtec, and albuterol. Also started using a nettie pot to keep my sinuses clear and to avoid more infections. It really does work wonders!!! Did that for 7 months. Things were under control. Now it's one pill at night and my albuterol as needed.
