| Help Guest 15:26:35 |
| | Dear Friends,
I write this with great anguish in my heart. For the past 14 years, I have done well in my career. I was made Creative Director of an agency after just 5 years in my line of work In 1999, I had a bad setback. However, I have managed to continue writing and consulting agencies from my home office. I have two siblings: an older brother in the US, and the eldest, a sister who loves in a town 120 miles from here. My sister is separated from her husband since 1998, and has not filed for either divorce or alimony. As is the tradition in India, my parents live with me and I run the house. In 2001, my sister underwent brain surgery for a benign tumour. My brother and I paid the surgery bill. For a year after the operation, I sent my sister about 15K a month to help her through the crisis. Often my sister borrows money from me and it is never returned. Recently, my sister took another 20K, and I had a cash flow crisis myself as I had to pay advance tax. When I mentioned this, my mother and sister abused me. My mother (who has turned into a Hare Krsna fanatic) lectured me on a brother's duty; my sister said quote"Who asked you to be so generous?" unquote. This has really upset me. I feel my sister is riding a sympathy wave. The tyranny of the weak so to speak. Without meaning to show off, I put her in touch with the top CEOs of major corporations, and she never reverted to them. They have mentioned this to me. Now I am in the process of expanding my work to Interactive and Wireless Marketing. However, there is no peace as various members from my extended family drop in and stay over for a month or two. I have been accused to being to intelligent, idealistic, too Westernized, not respecting Indian tradition, being too honest, etc. In all this, the fact that I am battling anxiety and panic is forgotten. Please help.

| How can depression be differentiated with Social Phobia or GAD? Anxious 09:37:47 |
| | How can depression be differentiated with Social Phobia or GAD? I have been seeing a doc for 3-4 years. The reason I visited him for the firt time was for depression, which he found out that i was bipolar. The manic or depressing episodes ara gone in my perspective. I had a great manic time before. So I know what it is like. Telling my doc that I am ok with bipolar, I told him that I am anxious when talking to people face to face, when i am outside. I had this long years ago. But I couldnt name it. He told me I am social phobic. And send me to therapy. Realizing the anxious moments even in home, watching tv, eating etc. I found out that this related to GAD. Anyway, I couldn't visit my doc lastly he has been out the city. I had very bad moments and went to another doc. He listened to me, he told me that I am in depression. He told me, depression is anxiety. But I am always anxious, I mean for 7-8 years I have been social phobic. For me this SP and lastly my GAD is making me depressive. But for him (he only saw me once), it is depression related to bipolar thing.
So I want to learn if anybody has an idea: How can depression be differentiated with Social Phobia or GAD? IS SP OR GAD CAUSED BECAUSE OF DEPRESSION? OR DEPRESSION MAKES YOU SOCIAL PHOBIC?
thanks you all...

| Hey there people..... Sharon 09:36:25 |
| | Haven't been around....but, I've thought of some of you now and again....I should make more time, there is a lot to be learned here, as well as some good home-grown entertainment. I have been less anxious lately, and slightly less depressed. Tried Elliot's suggestion......was it Elliot??? My mind is old and fails me often..........but, my doc and I have added a dose of Ritalin to my regimen, and it worked wonders at first, felt like the same happy carefree kid I was when I was about 14.
The effect has worn off, or I've settled a bit and become discouraged with feeling only happy, want bliss in my life........only kidding, I think it's time to add a second dose because Ritalin has a short half-life in your system.
So, it's been quite the summer.....raining all of the time....haven't cared for my gardens as I should, but they're still beautiful.
Have been working on local political issues, and primarily on backing a new fellow for Congress, an inspired left-wing Democrat, who feels that ending the war in Iraq and staying out of the Middle East in general is a huge priority, and that working at trying to save the environment is another big-time issue. This guy is young and energetic and idealistic, probably not jaded enough to be a politician......but I'm hoping.......this is important for dealing with both anxiety and depression, I feel........having hope, and working on something that might bring positive change for oneself and the world. It does a lot for me, at any rate.
Hope that you are all okay, will check in again soon. ...............Sharon

| I saw my therapist Diana 07:54:09 |
| | My dear family;
I saw last wednesday my therapist, and Roel for a few moments. Next week i will see my therapist again. So i will try to talk with her about my sister. I don't know what to say, i don't have power to do that. It is so difficult, and it is also very emotional, and scary. I don't want to loose myself there, and i mean that i would loose my selfcontrol. I can only cry when i talk about her, and the P/A is very very high.
Love Diana.

Todays question is being brought to you by our very own Cathy > When was your first Anxiety Attack?> Jackie
This is a very interesting question! It is hard to answer for me though - because I have social anxiety, I have experienced unwarranted and excessive anxiety and fear for my whole life. But are these 'anxiety attacks'? I would say no - I think an AA is one where you are experiencing body symptoms for no good reason. If you have an actual reason to be afraid, then you are experiencing 'normal' fear and anxiety (I think). My social fear may be irrational bt it is a REAL fear for me and is darn scary!
What about if you get a fright/shock and the body symptoms continue for a long time after the danger is gone - is that an AA/PA or just a normal fear reaction? I had 2 minor motorbike crashes in 1999/2000 and afterwards I had body symptoms for the whole day. Was I having AAs? I really don't know!
I had flu in 1999 and my body was in a terrible state. I seemed to have a lot of what I would now call anxiety symptoms - palpitations, shallow breathing etc. Were these AAs or a normal flu symptom? I dunno!!
However, in May 2002, I had my first 'proper' AA/PA - one where there was no detectable cause (illness/bike crash etc). It just happened for no reason. My brain/body seemed to learn how to have them without any stimulous on that day, and I have had them every day since. I just really want to unlearn what I have learnt!!

Todays question is being brought to you by our very own Gigglz > Top chefs are coming over to prepare dinner for you tonight...what should they> prepare?>
Jackie Hmmmm, good question!
Appetizers: Ahi sashimi and seared scallops wrapped in bacon. Okay, throw in some steamed clams with garlic bread to dip in the broth. (I'm already drooling.)
Salad: Spinach salad with bacon and a hot bacon dressing - okay, plop a couple of egg slices on there, too, and some garlic croutons. Why not?
Soup: New England clam chowder - hands down my favorite soup.
Main: Assorted seafood: Steamed king crab, broiled lobster tail, grilled shrimp all served with steamed aspargus spears and roasted garlic mashed potatoes.
Dessert: A glass of tawny port
Okay, like I could eat all of that anyway, but it's not like top chefs are coming over to my house in the first place. We can dream, right? It makes life fun!

I bought it so I could throw my bike in the back to go to the beach. One night, me and my girlfriend, Mary, went to a new development being built. This was the "nicest" version of Laurie being crazy. The other things? I can't post them in here!!! (Oh my!)
